Where did it all
start ?
Errm, a stereo and a 14" TV. We knew that plugging the TV in the
HiFi was a good idea, until we stumbled across a 29" Prologic TV.
Our eyes (and ears) opened to the world of home cinema and we were hooked
from there. A number of small step upgrades (Decent amplifier, subwoofer,
centre speaker...) have led to what we are now presenting.
What is the main
idea ?
An integrated home
cinema, no big boxes... Big sound, big picture in a useable room. No visible
wires.
Tell me more...
The lounge
features a standard chimney that the previous owner encased in a much
larger Breeze Block construction. The overall width of the chimney is
around 10 feet. To the left of the chimney was an alcove which has been
put to good use. The space between the ceiling and the first floor has
also been used where possible.
Speakers then...
You need
lots of them and this is where the problems usually start. We decided
that in-wall and in-ceiling speakers were the way to go.
And the picture...
We now have
projector, a little SONY VPL-HS1. This is courtesy of Nathalie who decided
to treat me for Valentines...
What about the
amplifier, etc...
As we said,
no black (or grey) boxes, so they are all hidden away in a purpose built
set of shelves in the alcove, with wooden doors to hide it all away. An
infrared repeater deals with the remotes so that the doors can remain
closed most of the time.
Future plans
A better
subwoofer, maybe an extra rear centre speaker (DD EX and DTS ES), more
X10, the list goes on...

Our
home cinema is now complete... It has taken us a long time.
Things
such as a wedding tend to put
a dent in progress.
Saying
that though, we have been at it since Dolby Pro-Logic was available and
have gone a long way since.
Take
a look at the details on the left to see what we have achieved...
